A
performer of Musical Theatre, Opera, and all things
Barbra Streisand, Patricia Causey is a multifaceted
soloist, award- winning composer, freelance writer, and
voice over artist. She has performed feature roles in
theatre, opera, oratorio, dinner theatre, and
competitions in the Southeast and in Korea.
She Stage Managed professional plays,
musicals, opera, and a casino revue, plus worked
backstage for three USA International Ballet
Competitions. She danced for 19 years and is a self-taught orchestrator.
Known
as "trish," her vocal training
includes work with Dr. Renee Sokol-Huff, Dr. Rhonda
Fisher, and Wynn Creasy, MFA. She has worked
with directors Richard Harden, Garold Gardner,
and Kinard Fite, and Stage Manager Bill
Kickbush. She worked in the costume shops of Ballet
Hysell and also Ballet Mississippi, under the
direction of dance legend Fernando Bujones.
Trish's
artistry reflects her human rights’ activism. Her music
and written works focus on tolerance, civil rights, and women's issues.
In 2005, she founded Gathering Grove Productions,
dedicated to "Working for
Human Rights Through the Arts." She
directed and produced intercultural arts workshops
as well as a fundraiser of Vagina Monologues,
raising $5,000 for the Gulf Coast Women's Center for
Nonviolence.
Even
with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, trish
continued to pursue excellence with her
art. In 2008,
trish was awarded a $4,000 Fellowship in Music
Composition from the Mississippi Arts Commission/
NEA,
as well as listing on the Artist Roster.
The Southern Arts Federation selected her to join the Artistry Registry
in the field
of Opera/Musical Theatre. For her artistic
endeavors affected by Hurricane Katrina, trish
was awarded a $5,000 Artist Recovery Business
Grant by the National Emergency Grant program.
In
2009, trish was the Featured Artist for WomenArts.org
in July, and she was the first Musical Theatre composer
to be the Featured Artist in Southern Breeze Magazine
(Fall 2009). She was named
an Official Presenter for the 8th
Women’s Playwright’s International in Mumbai,
India.
Trish
teaches Voice and Audition workshops as well as
private
lessons. Hired as a Vocal Coach for schools, singers,
and a Nashville band, she has produced award-winning
voice students and helps college hopefuls win
much-needed scholarships. Though composing is her
passion, trish is also a freelance writer
and has
entered the field of Voice Over work for commercials and
documentaries.
Currently
working on a song cycle commission for opera contralto,
Wynn Creasy, she has begun work on a five-movement
concerto. One pet project is to have the first week of
June officially declared National Musical Theatre Week
By President Obama; and she hosts her own online radio
show, "Musical Theatre Talk with Trish
Causey," interviewing the best in the theatre
world.
