Writer-Composer - Trish Causey



Trish Causey is the Guide for Theatre on About.com, a New York Times Company, as well as a frequent writer of cover stories and feature articles for Stage Directions Magazine. She has also been a paid writer for TheatreFace.com and BroadwaySpace.com.

Her original stage works include two musicals, an opera, a 2-act play, and a requiem that is a work-in-progress. She has also written several short screenplays. The themes of basic civil rights, women's rights, tolerance, and acceptance run throughout all her works.

Witchcraze by Trish Causey (ASCAP)

Below are the accomplishments, thus far, for Witchcraze, a musical that follows Bridghid Goody as she is caught in the web of fear and hysteria during the 1692 Salem Witch Trials.

  • November 2009 – Featured Playwright: VIII Women Playwrights International Conference, Mumbai, India
  • July 2008 – Featured Artist: invited to be listed on South Arts’ artist registry, the Southern Artistry, in the field of Opera/Musical Theatre
  • July 2008 – Grant Recipient: $5,000 Artist Recovery Grant/Hurricane Katrina, MAC/NEG
  • June 2008 – Featured Artist: Judged and accepted for listing on the state Artist Roster
  • June 2008 – Grant Recipient: $4,000 Artist Fellowship in Music Composition, MAC/NEA

Voices on the Wind by Trish Causey VOICES ON THE WIND is a play in two acts set on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Alex, a traditional, is at odds with his non-traditional half-brother, Bobby, over howthe Lakota People should maintain their culture in the 21st century. When white filmmaker, Meaghan, is hired to shoot a documentary, Alex thinks this eye-ska is the worst of his problems. Then he meets Coop, a Texas oilman with a shady business proposal, who takes much more than he gives to the People of Pine Ridge.

The hope is that VOICES ON THE WIND will make its profe ssional NYC premiere by 2013.






Herstory by Trish Causey
HERSTORY is a one-act musical for children that highlights women around the world and throughout the centuries who affected world events, but not necessarily the his-story books.

Some of the historical women featured in HERSTORY are Egyptian pharaoh Hatshepsut, British warrior queen Boudicca, 9th century Japanese novelist
Murasaki Shikibu, 15th century Indian poet Miribai, English queen Elizabeth I, ex-slave Sojourner Truth, the female WASPs World War II pilots, DNA pioneer Rosalind Franklin, American Indian activists, African-American opera singer Marion Anderson, and many more.

Two Hearts by Trish Causey
TWO HEARTS is a one-act minimalist opera written for 6 singers and 10 musicians, including 8 chamber instumentalists, plus soprano sax and electric bass.

Set in current day, Greg and Kaileigh are celebrating their upcoming marriage at their wedding rehearsal dinner which is hosted by Bruce and Thom
at a fine hotel.  Old emotions come to the surface when Kaileigh runs into her former girlfriend, Roma.  Roma feels betrayed by Kaileigh marrying a man, and Roma's current girlfriend, Ellen, engages Kaileigh in a verbal show-down, wanting her to make a stand on identity and self-truth.
